Celebrate the Double Festival! Middle aged and elderly friends drink Congee like this, celebrate Laba, and enjoy health
It's a little cold today, just in time for Laba.
Before and after the slight cold, we entered the coldest winter day. At this time, if there is a bowl of fragrant, soft and glutinous hot Congee, it will be more comfortable to iron the stomach and warm the limbs. The Laba Festival also has the custom of drinking "Laba Congee".
Laba drinks Congee to pray for good fortune and ward off evil spirits
The custom of drinking Congee in Laba has existed in ancient times, and originated from Buddhism. There are records in the Northern Song Dynasty:
On the eighth day of the first lunar month, there were three or five monks and nuns in the streets and alleys, forming a team to chant Buddhism... The major temples held a Buddhist bathing party, and sent seven treasures and five flavors Congee and disciples, called Laba Congee. All people eat Congee with fruit and miscellaneous materials.
With the gradual evolution and development of this custom, it gradually became a day for people to drink Congee to pray and ward off evil spirits.
The materials for cooking Laba Congee can be prepared according to people's preferences. All grains and cereals can be used to cook Congee: rice, glutinous rice, barley, brown rice, red beans, soybeans, mung beans, black beans, red dates, peanuts, walnuts, chestnuts, nuts, dried fruits, etc. A family can enjoy a pot of porridge.
Since there are many kinds of Laba Congee, and middle-aged and elderly friends often have gastrointestinal dyspepsia, or "three high" problems, how should we drink Laba Congee?
Today, Health Headline (Wechat: baojiandaifu) introduces two different types of Laba Congee, which can be adjusted according to your own situation.
Poor digestion, do this
For middle-aged and elderly friends with poor digestion, it is necessary to reduce the digestive burden of the gastrointestinal tract.
When cooking Laba Congee, put less or no beans to avoid excessive burden on the intestines.
If you often have diarrhea, you can put more brown rice, yellow rice, millet, yam, and lotus seeds, which are easier to digest and have less irritation to the intestines.
Before cooking Congee, soak the materials for a longer time, and the cooking time can also be longer, so that the cooked Congee of coarse grains and beans can be better digested.
Suggestions for "Three High" Friends
For friends with "three high" problems, you can make some adjustments when cooking Congee.
When cooking Congee, try to increase the proportion of beans to more than 1/3. For example, red beans, mung beans, kidney beans, and chickpeas have a lower impact on blood sugar than cereals. You can also add some oats and barley. On the one hand, it can increase the viscosity of Congee, make Congee taste better, and on the other hand, it can help control blood sugar.
Do not release ingredients that have a significant impact on blood sugar, such as glutinous rice, white rice, sticky millet, etc. Sweet raisins and dates should be kept low, and no sugar should be added.
"Soak the ingredients for a short time. Do not cook them too long or too rotten. Leave a bit of" chewing "to control blood sugar and increase the feeling of fullness.".
