Will poor sleep weaken sexual ability? Men who sleep less than 5 hours will have no sexual desire at all
Testosterone deficiency is closely related to low energy, decreased libido, inattention and fatigue, and it plays a key role in building muscle strength and bone marrow density.
Sleep directly affects endocrine disorders
"Low testosterone levels are associated with reduced happiness and vitality, which may also be caused by insufficient sleep," said medical professor Eva Kenter.
"With the progress of research, the relationship between insufficient sleep time and poor sleep quality and endocrine disorders has been confirmed," he added.
Eve Kenter and his colleagues found that the reduction of sleep can age a young man's testosterone level by 10 to 15 years.
The experimental population is young people
The survey recruited 10 men from the campus of the University of Chicago. They were 24 years old on average, thin and healthy. They underwent a series of physical tests to test whether they had endocrine or mental disorders.
Let volunteers sleep for 10 hours three nights, and then let them sleep for less than 5 hours eight nights. Researchers take blood samples every 15 to 30 minutes on the last day of each phase of the experiment. They found that the effect of sleep on testosterone levels was obvious after only one week of sleep deprivation.
Only five hours of sleep will reduce the testosterone level by 10% to 15%. These people have the lowest testosterone level in the afternoon of their sleep restriction day. From 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., participants also have to report their mood and energy level. They report that when the testosterone level drops, their happiness is also declining.
