In this study, researchers followed 2000 men aged between 40 and 79 for 19 years to understand their sexual function and the state of their cardiovascular system. Researchers say that although the results of the study do not confirm that impotence necessarily indicates that a heart attack is imminent, the data they obtained in 1996 indicate that between 1979 and 1995, among men who developed heart disease, the number of men with impotence was 3.5 times higher than those without heart disease. In addition, other studies have confirmed that more than half of men who have undergone heart bypass surgery have developed impotence. This suggests that impotence is a signal that there may be a problem with the heart.
Researchers say that after men experience impotence, they often encounter two situations: one is that they are difficult to speak up, so they dare not seek medical attention, and do not want to investigate the reasons, always feeling that they may recover on their own. The second situation is that when seeking medical treatment, doctors often only consider some traditional factors that cause impotence, such as alcohol abuse, smoking, kidney disease, and psychological disorders, without considering the possibility that patients may experience impotence due to heart problems.
Researchers also caution men who have already experienced impotence, especially when their physical condition or mood does not change significantly and suddenly experience impotence, to be vigilant about whether there is a problem with their heart, as heart problems can easily lead to insufficient blood supply, leading to the occurrence of impotence. At the same time, you should pay attention to whether you have any discomfort in your chest, such as chest tightness, chest pain, etc. When seeking medical attention, you can also actively introduce yourself to the doctor about whether you have a history of heart disease, or whether you have recently experienced any discomfort with your heart, to attract the doctor's attention.
