Women can develop endometriosis at any age. There are many factors that seem to increase the possibility of disease, including menstrual pattern, disease history, immune factors, environmental toxins, and so on.
What are the risk factors of endometriosis?
1. Menstrual pattern
The risk of endometriosis varies according to the period of female physiological day. Menstrual menarche, short cycle, long cycle, routine period and severe period all affect the early onset.
2. Family history
Women with a family history of endometriosis are at increasing risk. These women are also prone to severe endometriosis.
3. Reproductive history
Because pregnancy and lactation reduce the number of women's menstrual periods, having no children or children rarely increases the risk of endometriosis in women.
4. Immune factors
Women with endometriosis also seem to experience a higher incidence rate of autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, allergies and asthma.
5. Obstruction of menstrual blood flow
It is believed that the obstruction caused by congenital abnormality or cervical stenosis may increase the possibility of menstrual retrograde, thus increasing the possibility of endometriosis.
6. Environmental toxin
Studies have shown that there is a link between dioxins and the risk of endometriosis. It is believed that dioxins may promote the development of endometriosis by imitating estrogen and/or damaging the immune system. In the past, attention was paid to the dioxin content in artificial silk cotton plugs. However, studies have shown that the content of dioxins and dioxin-like substances in the food eaten by women is higher than that in the food exposed with tampons.
How to diagnose endometriosis?
1. Vaginal ultrasound
During the pelvic examination, the doctor may detect the symptoms of endometriosis, such as tenderness, fixed uterus and enlarged ovary. If an enlarged ovarian or pelvic mass is detected, vaginal ultrasound can be performed.
2. Laparoscopy
At present, the only way to clearly diagnose endometriosis is through laparoscopy. Laparoscopy is an operation in which a long and thin telescope is inserted into the abdomen through an incision near the navel. Put the air pump into the abdominal separation organ, and the surgeon can find the signs of endometriosis. If there is endometriosis, it can be divided into 1 to 4 grades according to its location and depth. If there is endometriosis, it may also be removed at this time.
