In the scrotum of a man, there is a cord like tissue on both sides, which is composed of vas deferens, arteries, veins, etc. It is called spermatic cord in medicine, and the veins inside the spermatic cord are called spermatic vein.
Due to the characteristics of anatomical structure, male physiological development and other factors, the spermatic vein is easy to be dilated by blood stasis, forming an earthworm like vein mass, which is called varicocele.
When varicocele occurs, harmful substances produced by testicular metabolism cannot be discharged in a timely manner and sufficient nutrients cannot be obtained, which can damage the normal secretion of testosterone by the testes and reduce their secretion. Testosterone is the driving force for maintaining male sexual function and producing sperm. If lacking, it will inevitably lead to male sexual dysfunction and infertility.
When varicocele occurs, approximately 50% to 80% of patients have abnormal semen examination, manifested as low sperm count, low motility, and abnormal morphology. The reasons for infertility caused by varicocele include: during varicocele, blood stasis in the spermatic vein can cause an increase in temperature in the scrotum, and testicular temperature can increase by 1 ℃ to 2 ℃. The prolonged increase in temperature can affect testicular sperm production, leading to azoospermia and oligospermia; At the same time, the high temperature environment in the epididymis is not conducive to sperm maturation.
In addition, prolonged sitting on soft chairs such as sofas can also easily cause varicocele, which can affect fertility. The original sitting posture of humans is based on two tubercles of the sitting bone as the support points. At this time, the scrotum is easily suspended between the thighs. However, when sitting on a sofa or other soft chair, the original support points sink, and the entire buttocks fall into the sofa. The filling and surface materials of the sofa will surround and compress the scrotum. When the scrotum is compressed, venous reflux is not smooth, and blood vessels near the testicles become thicker, When blood stasis is severe, it can lead to varicocele, and patients may experience symptoms such as heavy testicular drop and dull lower abdominal pain. At this time, due to blood stasis, the pressure in the spermatic vein increases, and the lack of oxygen and nutrients affects the clearance of metabolites, thus affecting spermatogenesis and maturation.
