How syphilis is transmitted
The source of transmission of syphilis is syphilitic patients, and its dissemination methods include the following:
Sexual transmission
It is the most critical dissemination method, accounting for approximately 95%. Untreated syphilis patients are most infectious within 1-2 years after infection. Due to the presence of many syphilis spirochetes in the patient's skin or mucous membrane (or leakage), it is very easy for the other party to be infected based on sexual behavior. As the disease period increases, the infectivity becomes smaller and smaller, lasting for about two years. Generally, the infectivity is relatively small.
Fetal transmission
Syphilis pregnant mothers, during pregnancy, syphilis spirochetes can enter the fetal baby's body based on the embryo and umbilical artery, causing contamination of the fetal baby's amniotic fluid, often occurring after 4 months of pregnancy, resulting in miscarriage, premature birth, fetal death, or transmission of syphilis during pregnancy. It is generally believed that before 16 weeks of pregnancy, the nutritional composition of the fetus and baby is balanced by the supply and demand of plush, and there are double layer somatic cells in the chorionic villi, namely, germ cells and nourishing somatic cells. Treponema pallidum is not easy to cross and regenerate this layer; After more than 16 weeks of pregnancy, the somatic cells in the trophoblast decrease and gradually contract, and by more than 24 weeks, they completely decline. Treponema pallidum can smoothly complete the embryo transfer into the fetal baby's body. In addition, women with syphilis who have been ill for about 2 years can still infect their babies after pregnancy, but the infectivity is lower than that of early syphilis.
other
Very few can cause infection through methods other than sexual activity, such as kissing, breastfeeding, etc. The second is simple touch transmission, such as touching clothes, pants, blankets, pure cotton towels, tableware, soft bristled toothbrushes, toilets, razors, cigarette butts, etc. that are contaminated by the patient's personal environment, but the opportunities are very limited. Typing in the blood of syphilis patients can also cause infection.
Warm hearted advice:
The body does not have innate immunity to syphilis, and can only develop immunity to this disease when there is a presence of Treponema pallidum in the body. Once the Treponema pallidum has subsided from the body after treatment, the immune system will also decline. When encountering Treponema pallidum, one will still develop syphilis. Therefore, syphilis patients must immediately seek medical treatment.
How to prevent syphilis
Although syphilis is terrifying, it can still be prevented by paying attention to multiple aspects of life:
(1) 95% of syphilis is spread through sexual activity, so persisting in monogamy, enhancing understanding and communication between couples, improving marital relationships, and decisively curbing the temptation of eating, drinking, whoring, and gambling can greatly reduce the chances of syphilis getting sick.
(2) When there is a syphilitic patient at home, immediately clean and disinfect the patient's clothes, pure cotton towels, and utensils. Commonly used pure cotton towels and utensils should be separated from their loved ones. During the period of illness, it is strictly prohibited for couples to live together. When one spouse falls ill, their immediate family members should also go to the hospital outpatient clinic for examination, in order to ensure early detection and treatment.
(3) Although there are very few carriers of syphilis by touch, there is no need to wash the basin in public bathrooms or use the sitting toilet in public bathrooms. Do not use your own pure cotton towels and utensils with others or wear underwear with each other. Remember to wash hands before and after urination.
(4) Pregnant mothers who suffer from syphilis must adhere to the responsibility of the next generation and actively seek medical treatment. The faster the treatment begins, the higher it becomes.
Warm hearted advice:
When there are red rashes, erosion, and ulcers in the reproductive organs, around the anus, and other areas within 3 months after sexual activity, without feeling pain or itching; If you have bright red spots and papules on your hands, you should suspect that you will develop syphilis and go to the hospital for a physical examination immediately.
