Syphilis is a common sexually transmitted disease. It is a chronic disease caused by Treponema pallidum infection. It is mainly transmitted through sexual behavior. It often invades various organs of the body and damages multiple organs. Syphilis is divided into three stages. The first stage of syphilis is only ulcer and scabies under the skin. The second stage of syphilis has damaged skin and mucosa, swollen lymph nodes, and the third stage of syphilis has damaged the heart, ears and nerves, which are transmitted to the next generation through the placenta and production canal. Let's see how infectious syphilis is and how to prevent it.
How infectious is syphilis?
The pathogen of syphilis is Treponema pallidum, which continuously divides and reproduces under appropriate living conditions and reproduces every 30~33 hours. It is an anaerobic microorganism. Treponema pallidum is cold-resistant, but it is afraid of cold, and its survival ability outside the body is extremely low. It will reduce its infectivity at 40 ℃, and will die after reaching 100 ℃. After the body is invaded by Treponema pallidum, it will multiply under the skin and mucous membrane. Some pathogens will enter the nearby lymph nodes along the lymphatic vessels and enter the body for about 2 to 4 weeks. The head of the department will have prickly heat under the skin, painless and itchy induration, which will subside after 3 to 6 weeks without treatment. At this stage, treponema pallidum has not been completely eradicated, but has spread in all parts of the body. Almost all organs and tissues on the body will be damaged. About 6-8 weeks later, the skin and mucous membrane will be damaged. Patients can develop periostitis, meningitis, sclera and ciliary body inflammation, etc. This is called secondary syphilis. At this time, there are many treponema pallidum, which is highly infectious. However, if you have strong resistance, you can eliminate part of the Treponema pallidum, and the rest is hidden in your body. Usually, there is less Treponema pallidum residue after 2 years of infection, and no infection will occur in sexual life. That is to say, the infectivity of syphilis is the strongest within one year after infection, and the infectivity is gradually weakened.
What is the route of syphilis infection?
1. Close contact
The intimate contact mentioned here does not only include sexual life. If you touch the clothes and tableware contaminated by syphilis patients, and kiss deeply when both men and women have oral ulcers, you may be infected with syphilis.
2. Sexual transmission
Sexual behavior is the main way to spread Treponema pallidum, especially the second stage syphilis is the most infectious. Therefore, couples must do a good job of prevention in their sexual life. The best way is to wear condoms.
