When is the best time for women to have their first sexual intercourse after giving birth? What are the precautions for women to have their first sexual intercourse after giving birth
Many postpartum women have healed their perineal wounds after a period of recovery, but during their first sexual intercourse, they may also experience wound cracks and bleeding. The initial happy moment suddenly turned into silent pain. Why is it like this?
Six weeks postpartum, couples can resume sexual activity
It can be seen that the first recovery is the external genitalia, the second is the uterus, the second is the uterine omentum, and finally the vaginal mucosa. Therefore, normal postpartum women must prohibit sexual intercourse within 56 days after giving birth.
For pathological delivery, such as cesarean section, forceps, episiotomy, or postpartum infection, fever, bleeding, etc., the recovery of organs and tissues such as the uterus, vagina, and vulva is slower, and the time of sexual intercourse should be correspondingly postponed.
It is best to have sex after 3 months of cesarean section, with forceps and suturing surgery. Cancer marks should age after the wound heals, and sex should be done about 70 days postpartum. If you have a fever or an intrauterine infection, you must wait for the illness to heal and be full of vitality before having sex.
Under normal circumstances, resuming sexual activity in the 6th to 8th week after childbirth does not pose a significant risk to maternal health. Even if some women give birth smoothly, their uterus recovers quickly, and their physical condition is good, sexual activity cannot recover prematurely. This is because during delivery, the endometrium of the vaginal wall becomes thinner and there are cracks in the uterus, which takes 3-4 weeks to fully heal; Moreover, the open uterine opening during childbirth cannot be completely closed in the short term.
Therefore, sexual intercourse within 4 weeks postpartum is not only prone to damaging the vaginal lining, but also causes serious diseases such as uterine infections and puerperal fever.
If lochia is not cleared within 2 weeks after delivery, it can easily lead to postpartum fever, which is highly dangerous and must be eliminated.
Be vigilant in your first sexual encounter
1. It is related to the time for resuming sexual activity. The wound of the perineal incision usually takes 7 days to heal and remove the gap. At this point, the surface tissue of the perineum has healed, but it takes 6-8 weeks for the deep muscle layer and fascia to repair. If sexual activity resumes too early, it can lead to wound cracking and bleeding.
2. Related to the overall condition of the mother: When the mother suffers from anemia, malnutrition, or vaginal and perineal inflammation, the healing of the perineal wound can be delayed.
3. Related to wound suturing. Except for the perineum surface, the inner muscle and subcutaneous fat layer were sutured with catgut. Because there are obvious individual differences in the absorption of catgut in human tissues, in addition to the quality of catgut, whether the perineum is strictly sterilized will also affect the absorption of human tissues
