What physical examination items must men check? These seven kinds of examinations must be done by men
The following are the most common physical examination recommendations for men. Note that these are only guidance and reference materials, and can not replace your doctor's advice.
1. Eye examination
If your vision does not need correction and you are under 50 years old, it is enough to have an eye examination every 3-5 years. If you are over 50 years old and wear corrective glasses, you should check your eyes every two years or so. Men with diabetes, hypertension or family history of eye disease should have their eyes checked at least once a year. When checking the eyes, the doctor checks glaucoma (increased intraocular pressure and decreased vision), macular degeneration (retinal degeneration), cataract (blurred lens).
2. Dental examination
At least once a year, the dentist should check the tooth age, gums, tongue, oral health, and whether there is oral cancer. Smokers and men who chew tobacco should be examined more often.
3. Blood pressure measurement
If you have no heart disease, check your blood pressure every 2-5 years until you are 50 years old, and check your blood pressure every year when you are over 50 years old. If you have a family history of high blood pressure, heart disease, sudden heart disease, or you have diabetes or overweight, you should also check once a year.
4. Cholesterol test
Blood tests can check cholesterol levels, including LDL ("bad" cholesterol) and HDL ("good" cholesterol), which can help you evaluate the chance of suffering from coronary heart disease. It should be checked once a year from the age of 20. If your cholesterol level is higher than normal (readings between 80/50 and 130/85 are considered normal) or your family has a history of coronary heart disease, you should consult your doctor if you need more frequent examinations.
5. Colonoscopy
The examination mainly starts at the age of 50. If the result is normal, the examination is generally conducted every 3-5 years. If there is a history of family polyps, colon cancer and ulcerative colitis, the number of examinations should be more.
6. Prostate examination
Ordinary digital rectal examination (DRE) is a direct examination of abnormal growth or tumor of prostate. Prostate specific antigen test (PSA) measures a series of proteins hidden in the blood. If the test result is higher than the normal level, it may indicate that there is cancer in the body. Although there is no official approval, you must check every year from the age of 40.
7. Testicular examination
The doctor recommends that you check your testicles for abnormal changes or growth every month, but it cannot replace the doctor's professional examination. The earlier the diagnosis of testicular cancer, the easier it is to cure. For males between the ages of 15 and 35, testicular examination should be conducted at least once every 2 to 3 years. Doctors sometimes do not perform this test automatically. During physical examination, if there is no such item and other items listed in this article, you must put forward your own examination requirements.
