What is the best treatment method for pubic lice? What should my partner do if they detect pubic lice
Lice disease is a skin disease caused by lice and occurs worldwide. Pudendal lice are a type of lice disease that can be transmitted through sexual contact and are often co infected by couples, with females being more common. In recent years, it has become popular in the United States and Western Europe. So, what is the treatment method for pubic lice?
1. Treatment principle: early diagnosis and timely treatment; The treatment plan must be individualized; Regular treatment and follow-up; Tracing the source of infection, conducting examinations and treatment; Sexual partners should undergo both examination and treatment simultaneously.
2. The ideal therapeutic drug for the treatment plan should be able to effectively kill both adult and egg lice at the same time. Before treatment, patients should be asked to shave off their pubic hair, and underwear, bed sheets, and bedding should be soaked in boiling water to kill insects.
The commonly used methods in clinical practice are as follows:
(1) General treatment: Shave off pubic hair, boil and disinfect underwear, underwear, menstrual belts, and bathing equipment to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Patients should avoid sexual activity to avoid infecting others. Because pubic hair is the place where pubic lice parasitize, without pubic hair, pubic lice will lose their necessary parasitic habitat. Therefore, in order to receive thorough treatment, it is generally required to shave off the pubic hair and burn it to completely eliminate the environment in which pubic lice rely for survival. In addition, the claws of pubic lice are very powerful, and they often tightly grasp the hair shaft, making it difficult to separate. Therefore, shaving pubic hair is a necessary treatment.
(2) Medication treatment:
A) Lin Dan (1%)( γ- Hexachlorobenzene, γ- 666): The dosage forms include lotions, shampoos, and creams. This medicine has the effect of killing adult and egg lice. The method of use is to apply the medicine to the affected area, wash the medicine after 8 hours, observe for 3-5 days, and if it does not heal, repeat the treatment once. Due to the excessive absorption of this drug, it can cause adverse reactions in the nervous system, and there are even reports of Lin Dan( γ- 666) is toxic to artificial blood stem cells, so this drug should be contraindicated for pregnant women, children, individuals with large areas of epidermal detachment and multiple skin lesions on the scrotum. Its adverse reactions may also include local irritation symptoms that subside after a few days; Occasionally dizziness occurs after applying medication, which disappears 1-2 days later. After long-term and extensive use, it may also have significant toxic effects on the central nervous system due to the absorption of drugs through the skin, such as seizures; A few patients may develop urticaria.
B) Malathion Lotion (78% ethanol with 0.5% malathion): This drug has the effect of killing adult and egg of pubic lice. The method of use is to apply the medicine to the affected area, wash it after 8-12 hours. It should be noted that this drug has a foul odor due to the release of thiol groups through hydrolysis, and is flammable before the ethanol evaporates completely. Therefore, it should be used with caution.
