What is subcutaneous implantation contraception? What Side Effects Can Subcutaneous Implantation Contraception Have
In the past two years, many high schools in the UK have administered contraceptive injections or subcutaneous contraceptives to women between the ages of 13 and 16 over 900 times. In addition, 7400 women aged 13 to 15 used contraception at their personal clinic.
This move has sparked criticism from British society, especially parents, but the UK health department claims that access to sexual health care services is the right of minors.
So what is subcutaneous implantation contraception? Why did this move cause strong opposition from British parents?
Subcutaneous implantation contraception is a new type of contraceptive method that is currently popular worldwide. This contraceptive method involves placing a certain dose of pregnancy hormone into a silicon capsule tube, embedding the tube subcutaneously, and slowly releasing a small amount of pregnancy hormone to exert contraceptive effects. In 1984, China introduced the subcutaneous implantation method of contraception, which was first used in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Shenyang. Currently, 15 provinces and cities across the country have established clinical trial centers for subcutaneous implantation methods of contraception for surgery. According to relevant data statistics, the pregnancy rate within 2 years is only 0.1%, and the pregnancy rate within 3 years is 0.24%.
Its principle of action is to achieve the purpose of contraception by changing the viscosity of cervical mucus, inhibiting the endometrial growth of sperm entering the uterine cavity, inhibiting ovarian ovulation which is not conducive to the implantation of zygote and other effects.
How to implement it specifically?
Subcutaneous implantation contraception surgery is generally performed within 7 days of menstruation or at the same time as induced abortion surgery. The surgical operation is simple. A small incision is made on the inner side of the contraceptive's upper arm, and a special trocar is used to push six silicon capsule tubes into the subcutaneous area (arranged in a fan-shaped manner) from the incision. The surgery is completed without the need for suturing, and the entire surgical operation can be completed in a few minutes. At present, the latest implant only requires single root implantation.
Within a few days after surgery, there may be local blueness and swelling, which do not require treatment and will disappear on its own after a few days. If there is bleeding, infection, or silicone capsule tube detachment from the wound, immediate medical attention should be sought. You can have sex 24 hours after the surgery.
Embedding a set of silicon capsule tubes can provide contraception for 5 years, and then removing them. If it is necessary to continue using this method of contraception, a new set of silicon capsule tubes can be implanted; For those who are planning to conceive, the silicone capsule tube should be removed six months before the planned pregnancy, during which time condoms or topical contraceptives can be used for contraception.
