Pruritus of the vulva is a common condition and its impact on women also requires attention. There are many reasons for pruritus of the vulva, which is not only related to lifestyle habits, but also to diseases.
Causes of external genital itching
1. Poor hygiene habits: If the external genitalia is not cleaned regularly, accumulation of vaginal secretions or menstrual blood in the genital area can cause itching. On the contrary, washing the external genitalia several times a day, or frequently using alkaline soap or potassium permanganate water bubbles to wash the external genitalia, can make the skin of the external genitalia too dry and also cause itching.
2. Clothing discomfort: For example, if you like to wear synthetic fiber pants or use rubber or plastic menstrual bands, the external genitalia skin may have poor ventilation, sweat immersion, and itching.
3. Sensitivity stimulation: systemic or local drug allergy in the external genitalia, causing itching in the external genitalia.
4. Fecal and urine irritation: A very small number of patients suffer from urethrovaginal fistula, urinary incontinence, anal fistula, long-term stimulation of feces and urine, and external genital itching.
5. Psychological factors: Some patients are unable to detect the cause of vulvar itching, which may be due to excessive mental tension, depression, anxiety, and other prone to vulvar diseases.
6. Menstrual factors: Due to menstrual blood flowing through the vagina, it disrupts normal vaginal acidity and alkalinity, and previously hidden pathogenic bacteria can be induced to infect and cause external genital itching. In addition, direct stimulation of menstrual blood can also cause discomfort in the perineum. During menopause, due to the decrease in estrogen levels in the body and the atrophy of the genitalia, the resistance to the bacterial community residing in the vagina is reduced, and it is prone to secondary senile vaginitis. Inflammatory secretions that stimulate the perineum are also prone to itching.
7. Sexual allergy: It is an allergic reaction that occurs in sexual life. Individuals with semen allergies, condom allergies, and friction allergies.
Possible diseases of external genital itching
1. Fungal vaginitis: itching of the external genitalia and vagina, flushing of the external genitalia, accompanied by bean residue like vaginal discharge, with a peculiar odor. Scratching can cause eczematous changes in external genitalia dermatitis.
2. Pudendal lice disease: Pudendal lice often adhere to the surface of the skin or the root of pubic hair, and their eggs are gray white and needle sized. Mite bites, their venom, and excreta can cause itching and peeling of the skin, leading to eczema like changes and folliculitis.
3. Octopus infection: It mainly affects young girls and can also infect adult women. At night, when the anus is loose, octopuses swim from the rectum to the vulva to mate and lay eggs, stimulating the skin and mucosa of the vulva, causing local itching.
