Analysis of three situations of precocious puberty
There are three types of sexual precocity: true sexual precocity, false sexual precocity and incomplete sexual precocity.
True precocious puberty: refers to the complete consistency between the development and maturation of the gonads and the appearance of secondary sexual characteristics, both of which are relatively early. It is caused by the premature activation and hyperfunction of the hypothalamic pituitary ovarian axis, the regulatory system in the body that manages youth development. The male to female ratio of true precocious puberty is 1:8, with girls being higher than boys.
Pseudo precocious puberty: refers to the development of secondary sexual characteristics that do not follow the pace of gonadal development, while the testicles or ovaries themselves do not develop, but some secondary sexual characteristics appear prematurely. The reasons for it are relatively clear, such as tumors in the thalamus, pineal gland, ovaries, adrenal cortex, and chorionic epithelium, or the sequelae of viral meningitis leading to a large secretion of sex hormones. In addition, pseudoprecocious puberty in children is caused by exogenous hormones such as taking contraceptive pills by mistake, taking hormone containing supplements, and using hormone containing cosmetics.
Incomplete completeness precocious puberty: it refers to the development of only individual sexual characteristics. If some girls simply have enlarged breasts, it is called premature breast development; Some children have premature appearance of pubic hair, which is called premature growth of pubic hair, and so on. In short, apart from these isolated phenomena, there are no systemic endocrine changes. This situation generally does not require special treatment.
Once a child is found to exhibit precocious puberty, parents should pay attention to the following two points:
1. When a parent discovers signs of precocious puberty in a child, it is important not to panic, but to carefully review the details of the child's life to see if there are any possible triggers that may lead to precocious puberty. It is important to immediately remove the triggers as much as possible. If peripheral precocious puberty is caused by taking contraceptive pills by mistake, the symptoms of precocious puberty will gradually subside after discontinuing the medication. At the same time, it is also necessary to observe whether the child has any accompanying phenomena such as rapid height growth, increased secretion of the external genitalia, and blackening of the areola, in order to provide reference for doctors.
