For a long time, the normative understanding of the psychological roles of men and women in society has profoundly regulated and influenced the development of women. Traditional culture believes that there are significant differences in the behavior of men and women, manifested as "men are superior to women", "men are strong and women are weak", and "men dominate the outside and women dominate the inside.".
Modern culture is more deeply aware than ever of the drawbacks of traditional culture in the norms of gender roles, which suppress women's intelligence and make them weaker; Under the special competitive mechanism of the market economy, the same psychological defects as women have made a considerable number of women victims. Among the 400000 laid-off workers in Chongqing, 60% are women. Studies in psychology, physiology, and cultural anthropology over the past decade have shown that the differences between the sexes are not absolute. Both sexes are born with bisexual genes, that is, both sexes have masculine and feminine aspects. Too harsh and strict gender stereotypes can only limit the overall development of both sexes' intelligence and personality. American psychologists have verified this, and their survey of 100 people with half male and half female has found that nearly 40% of people have a bisexual psychological temperament, with less than 1/3 being pure male or pure female. In terms of intelligence, social adaptability, emotional regulation, cognitive responsiveness, and stress resolution, bisexual men and women are the best, with the strongest abilities. Men who are too rigid, rough, and lack flexibility, peace, and delicacy are incompatible with women who are too weak, dependent, self enclosed, and inferiority complex. In addition, research has also found that successful women tend to exhibit masculinity such as self-confidence, competition, dominance, and determination and courage, while excellent male leaders and generally creative men are more likely to exhibit femininity such as sensitivity, steadiness, carefulness, and otherness. The author recently conducted a psychological quality survey of 121 excellent women in Chongqing, and found that 32.8% of them are bisexual. They often have both male and female strengths. In a highly competitive modern society, they are more proactive and enterprising than ordinary women, more able to adapt to social life, and conducive to career success. Therefore, many psychologists believe that the androgynous temperament of sexual union is the temperament of successful people.
A large number of research facts have proven that there are many psychological or behavioral characteristics that both sexes should possess, such as enthusiasm and openness, independent thinking, pioneering spirit, perseverance and courage, fear of difficulties, compassion, and a sense of responsibility. "It cannot be regarded as a patent for men or women. In order to correct the bias in traditional culture's understanding of gender, there has been a trend at home and abroad to attach importance to androgyny education for women, requiring women to not only exert their psychological advantages, promote their strengths and avoid their weaknesses, but also be adept at learning from men, pay attention to highlighting their weak points, and achieve their overall development.". This has important practical significance for cultivating a fully developed new generation of women in the 21st century, developing women's self, and enabling them to gain a foothold in social competition.
