When it comes to male infertility, most people think that sperm lack vitality or simply do not have sperm. In fact, even with sperm, if the semen always looks like jelly, the sperm will still be "bound" to the legs and unable to meet the egg.
Non liquefaction of semen means that the semen is thick like jelly, which constrains the sperm and prevents them from moving freely, often resulting in poor mobility and difficulty in natural reproduction. Usually, semen is in a liquid state at the moment it is discharged from the body, but it quickly solidifies and gradually liquefies within 5-20 minutes. This characteristic allows ejaculated semen to stay in the vagina for an extended period of time, increasing the chances of conception, and gradually liquefying to release energetic sperm at an appropriate time. If complete liquefaction is not achieved within 30 minutes after ejaculation, it is called delayed liquefaction and has some impact on fertility; If the semen does not liquefy for more than an hour, it is called non liquefaction. The sperm is trapped by the semen, just like a person swimming in mud, and it is one of the common causes of male infertility.
The coagulation and liquefaction of semen are mainly regulated by the balance of liquefaction factors and coagulation factors secreted by the prostate and seminal vesicles. When problems occur with the prostate gland, such as inflammation or secretion dysfunction of the prostate (low levels of androgens, etc.), it can lead to non liquefaction of semen.
Since those with abnormal semen liquefaction can be accompanied by prostatitis and other reproductive tract infectious diseases, anti infection treatment, together with drugs to improve prostate secretion function, is the fundamental way to improve semen liquefaction. For patients who are ineffective in the treatment of the above methods, it is possible to consider pre-treatment of semen in vitro, followed by artificial insemination of husband's semen (AIH).
In order to prevent the occurrence of non liquefaction of semen, men should pay attention to protecting their prostate in daily life, such as avoiding excessive alcohol consumption, minimizing spicy food consumption, avoiding prolonged cycling and sitting, having regular sexual activity, and paying attention to local warmth.
