Is whitening of the external genitalia skin a sign of external genitalia leukoplakia? What tests can diagnose vulvar leukoplakia
Vulvar leukoplakia is a common gynecological disease that seriously affects the normal life and health of patients. After illness, a series of symptoms also appear, and it should be taken seriously and undergo timely and reasonable examinations.
Is Whitening of the Vulva a White Spot
The reason for the whitening of the external genitalia skin is still unclear. However, after a certain disease occurs on the skin, excessive keratinization of the epidermis and a decrease in basic skin pigments can cause skin color to turn white, leading to various skin diseases such as chronic dermatitis, hard atrophy, lichen planus, and neurodermatitis. Because these diseases can cause the skin of the external genitalia to turn white, they are collectively referred to as white lesions of the external genitalia, also known as white patches of the external genitalia in the past.
Symptoms of vulvar leukoplakia
1. Strange itching unbearable: After patients suffer from vulvar leukoplakia, the itching is unbearable. This itching is usually paroxysmal, especially at night, accompanied by discomfort such as burning and dryness, which seriously affects the patient's normal sleep and cannot obtain sleep time and quality.
2. Color Whitening: In addition to feeling itching in the external genitalia, patients also experience symptoms of dry skin, loss of elasticity, whitening of color, atrophy, and collapse, as well as common symptoms of white patches on the external genitalia, such as severe pain and burning sensation, and inability to live and work normally.
3. Rough skin: After the appearance of white spots on the vulva, if the disease is not treated in a timely manner, the mucous membrane of the vulva skin will become white, with light red alternating, rough and uneven surfaces, like bark, and will become hard, with cracks, ulcers, erosion, and external manifestations of difficulty urinating
Vulvar leukoplakia examination
1. Leucorrhea examination: mainly includes 6 items such as pH value and cleanliness, but due to the patient's physical condition, the examination results are affected, such as physiology.
2. Vulva examination: Vulva examination is a simple method that mainly involves observing with the naked eye or touching with hands, and determining whether to obtain white patches of the vulva based on symptoms.
3. Tissue biopsy: Biopsy is an accurate and reliable method in the examination of vulvar leukoplakia, mainly by taking samples from the patient's lesion for examination. This examination can determine whether there is cancer in the vulvar leukoplakia, and is a relatively accurate method.
Diagnostic criteria for vulvar leukoplakia
1. The symptoms of vulvar leukoplakia can manifest as itching of the vulva, sometimes accompanied by burning and pain. The affected area has rough skin, as thick as moss, with scratches, and sometimes dry cracks. Patients with vulvar leukoplakia have decreased local pigmentation, and the labia majoris and labia minora generally turn white. Patients with vitiligo of the external genitalia may experience mild atrophy, and in severe cases, the penis, labia minora, and labia minora may atrophy and adhesions, with partial or complete disappearance of the labia minora. This is an important diagnostic basis for vulvar leukoplakia.
