How to Collect Prostate Fluid
Q: To diagnose chronic prostatitis, a prostate fluid test is also required. So, how to collect prostate fluid, and what are the specific requirements and methods for collecting prostate fluid?
Answer: Prostate fluid is collected by massaging the prostate gland. The first drop of prostate fluid flowing out of the urethral orifice should be discarded. Specimens were collected using glass slides for microscopic examination. If prostate fluid culture is required, the penis should be wiped with a bromogeramine cotton ball before massage and collected in a sterile test tube. If the patient is unable to discharge prostate fluid after prostate massage, they can compress the anterior urethra to collect prostate fluid, or instruct the patient to urinate immediately for routine urination or culture testing, and compare it with the routine urination or urine culture before massage.
During digital rectal examination, if necessary, prostate massage can be performed to obtain prostate fluid. The patient is in a standing position with a bent waist or a knee chest position. During digital rectal examination, the prostate is touched on the anterior wall of the rectum, and forcefully massaged from the left and right sides symmetrically towards the central sulcus, followed by 3 to 4 times of massage from the bottom of the prostate to the tip. If there is no prostate fluid dripping out, you can press the bulbous urethra with your fingers in the direction of the perineum toward the outer urethral opening. It can be seen that prostate fluid drips out from the urethral opening and is placed on a clean slide for immediate examination. However, it should be noted that acute prostatitis and prostate tuberculosis should not be massaged.
