The cause of nipple retraction
1. Primary inverted nipple
(1) Smooth muscle dysplasia. The nipple has 15-20 openings for milk ducts, with smooth muscle fibers surrounding the ducts. The nipple is surrounded by the ducts and the muscle fiber bundles inserted into the dermal layer of the nipple stretch inward. The texture of these muscle bundles is significantly different from that of the ducts.
(2) Dysplasia of the milk duct. Incompletely developed milk ducts cannot be ducted as cords.
(3) Lack of support tissue under the nipple.
2. Secondary inverted nipple
(1) Caused by illness. Caused by the contraction of the invaded catheter, ligament, and fascia.
(2) Malignant breast tumors. Women with normal breasts should undergo mammography and other examinations to check for the presence of malignant breast tumors if there is no obvious cause of nipple retraction.
(3) Breast surgery. When applying dermal pedicle in breast plastic surgery, tension and scar contraction can also cause nipple retraction.
3. Other common reasons
(1) The clothes are too tight. Women's underwear that is too tight during breast development can easily cause nipple depression.
(2) Improper use of bras. Bras that are too small, too tight, or used too early can cause nipple depression.
(3) Related to genetics. Clinical observation shows that among mothers and their mother's generation, grandmothers have a history of nipple depression, and the likelihood of nipple depression in the next generation is higher than in normal individuals.
Harm of nipple retraction
1. Impact on breastfeeding: Flat, sunken, and everted nipples are not convenient for breastfeeding, and abnormal nipple development, especially sunken nipples, can affect the attraction of newborns and make it difficult to breastfeed normally. In addition, due to inverted nipples, newborns cannot contain nipples and milk cannot be sucked out, making them prone to dehydration. Patients with inverted nipples experience enlarged breasts during pregnancy, resulting in increased milk secretion and severe inverted nipples. Mothers also give up breastfeeding due to their own reasons
2. Affects breast aesthetics: nipple retraction affects the health and aesthetics of women's breasts, loses curve aesthetics, and affects the overall image of women.
3. Impact on sexual life: The nipple is also one of the female sexual sensitive points, and stimulation through the nipple can also help women achieve orgasm. The inverted nipple can make it difficult for women to obtain effective sexual stimulation, and even affect the male's sexual desire.
