The provincial health department reported the situation of AIDS prevention and control in our province yesterday. At present, the overall epidemic situation of AIDS in the province remains stable. The epidemic situation is still dominated by the the Pearl River Delta region, but there is an obvious upward trend in the eastern and western wings.
As of October 31 this year, our province has received a total of 6805 people receiving free antiviral treatment, with 5466 patients currently being treated.
According to experts' estimates, through more than 10 years of active prevention and control, our province has reduced 124000 people infected with AIDS virus, and reduced social and economic losses by more than 40 billion yuan.
Worryingly, the transmission of AIDS has changed from the past dominated by injecting drug use to heterosexual transmission. The proportion of heterosexual transmission among reported HIV/AIDS cases has increased from 37.6% in 2008 to 56.5% this year, and the proportion of homosexual transmission among men has increased from 6% in 2008 to 15.2% this year. The infection rate among men who have sex with men is rising rapidly. This year, the HIV infection rate among the population monitored in the Pearl River Delta region is as high as 10.7%.
Our province has gradually entered the peak period of AIDS incidence. The number of AIDS patients reported this year has increased by 17.7% over the same period last year. Due to the accumulation of treatment cases over the years, the task of medical treatment has continued to increase. The majority of cases are male (76.2%) and young adults (81.4% between the ages of 20 and 49). The number of elderly cases is increasing year by year and is mainly caused by sexual transmission.
The positive rate of AIDS virus testing among drug users in our province decreased from 2% in 2006 to 1% in 2011. Experts estimate that at least 2148 new HIV infected people will be reduced.
AIDS treatment
At present, there is still a lack of effective drugs to cure HIV infection worldwide. 1. General treatment
No isolation treatment is required for HIV infected individuals or patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. For asymptomatic HIV infected individuals, normal work and life can still be maintained. Antiviral treatment should be carried out based on specific conditions and closely monitored for changes in the condition. For patients with AIDS in the early stage or who have developed into AIDS, attention should be paid to rest according to the condition, and high calorie, multi vitamin diet should be given. Those who cannot eat should receive intravenous infusion to supplement their nutrition. 2. Antiviral therapy
